This 8 hour workshop, split over two half days, provides in-depth training on Splunk Application development. You will learn how to build and use a Splunk App, how to theme and brand Splunk Web, create desktop and search views for your App, create Modules for your App, package an App and how to access Splunk through the REST API.

Course Prerequisites:

• Using Splunk
• Knowledge of HTMl, XML and CSS
• Experience with shell scripting
• Familiarity with regular expressions

• Describe Splunk’s architecture
• Describe the application directory structure
• Understand the Splunk App development methodology

Lesson Two - Creating an App

• Describe the class sample App
• Create an App from the default template
• Modify defaults views for the App
• Clone views
• Create quick forms and dashboards from templates

Lesson Three - Advanced Views

• Create advanced views
• Determine when to share views and how to do so
• Identify major elements in the XML files for views

Lesson Four - Modules

• Describe modules
• Know the major modules available out-of-the-box
• Add modules to your dashboard

Lesson Five - Configuration files for modules

• Examine the configuration files relevant to Apps
• Create and edit App configuration files
